May 2012
This month we finish the bulk of Georgia and do a few private parties. We also have our meet and greet and I get ready for the trip north for our summer tour.
I’ve been working on the booth slowly for the last month. It’s coming along nicely. It’s actually a nice little living space now. If all the roof repairs hold up, it’ll be a great place to come back to next year!
In case you didn’t know we do all kinds of shows, not just Ren Fairs. We do Corporate Events, Private Parties, Birthdays… Hell, we’ll do just about any event for the right price. This month we did three!
Our first one was a graduation party. It was quite a drive but it was in a really nice area outside of the 285 loop that surrounds Atlanta. The young man that was graduating was apparently a big fan of the Ren Fest and the family decided to do a Renaissance themed party. Decorating and serving food that fit the theme were just a couple things they did. We did two shows. We did Robin Hood first, outside in the back yard in a nice little area they made for us. We mixed the cast with both adults and kids. It was well received. After that we ate and had refreshments before preparing for a sword show. The only problem was that it started to rain. Not a little drizzle, but a full on downpour! We waited for a while but it became increasingly obvious that the rain wasn’t going anywhere, so we decided to do the sword show in the living room.
Everyone was already gathered in the house due to the rain, so all we had to figure out was how to create a space big enough to hold us and the crowd and still be able to swordfight. Our only chance was to empty the living room of furniture. We got help from some teens and adults and got a nice space cleared. Unfortunately there was no way we had enough space for real swords. Our only option… wooden and plastic swords supplied by the family used in slow motion. “This should be fun!â€
The sword show went off without a hitch. Everyone laughed their asses off and the sword fighting was hilarious! Improv is one of our greatest skills after all! Of course by the time we finished up the rain had stopped. Oh well, as long as the client was happy!
The next night we had another show not too far from the first one on the north side of town. This one was for a fan that was celebrating her 21st birthday! So it promised to be a little crazier! It was. There were two cakes, shooters, and a keg! Our attendance was unknown to the birthday girl and she really was surprised. After socializing a bit we had the DJ turn down the music and did a racy sword show in the back yard. The sun was setting and we were starting to lose light so we had to really hurry before someone got a sword in the eye during twilight.
Again, the show was well received, although with all the alcohol I could tell some of the crowd was a little distracted. We stayed for some cake and the bonfire and some more well wishing and then headed back to the fair site. It was a school night (Friday) after all. We had to perform in the morning!
Georgia has been great this year. Gate is up and the weather has been so cooperative! There was very little rain and only about 3 days of that sticky Georgia summer weather. I’ll tell ya… performing in 90+ degree heat really takes a lot out of you. And, the crowds are sluggish in that weather.
Next up on our list of events was our Fan Club Meet and Greet. We held it at the same place as last year. It’s a nice bowling alley/arcade/laser tag facility. Ronn couldn’t make it due to some Drivers License and truck repair issues I’m sure he will write about. We’ve always have a strong turnout in Georgia and this one was no different. I had a great time bowling and drinking beer! Thanks to all that attended! See ya next year!
After finishing up in Georgia, it’ll be time to head north to prepare for our summer tour. Coming up we have a run at a new show called Black Rock Medieval Summerfest. (www.blackrockfest.com) And then we’ll be doing a one weekend guest appearance at Bristol before starting the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. I hope you get a chance to visit it should prove to be a fun summer!
See ya soon!
