One of the cooler things I was able to do while tooling around this spring, making my way to Ok, was stop by the local comic shop in the town where I grew up. Odin's, in Lilburn GA was where I first fell in love with Marvel, and DC, and Bone, and where Superman died. I stopped in and purchased a few of Mike Grell's Green Arrow run that were missing from my collection.

So, I spent a few weeks at GARF before heading to Oklahoma, and as I left Fairburn (in my new '95 BMW, which I named 'Justin Beemer') I was outrunning a major sorm cell, the same that ravaged the south this early spring. I stopped in alabama for the night in a Motel Six, (this one sadly without a rocket ship-shaped shower) and headed back on the road early the following morning. The drive was mostly ok, until I had a tire blow out in AK, which led to the discovery that my spare was flat... so that was an ordeal, getting towed, and the tire replaced. I rolled into site at OKRF late thursday night and slept in my car, getting up early the next morning to walk around site. This fair site is gorgeous, and really charming, and among the neatest attributes is the wandering peacocks, though my brothers and I would later learn how fickle and obnoxious these birds can be.
OKRF is a blast, the shows have been fun, the people amazing. We've made a lot of new friends, and enjoyed this most unique of festivals. One of the best things here at the castle is the nightly events, such as the Masque ball, the King's Feast, and of course, Ceiledgh. Ceiledgh is the Scottish night, and so we all donned our Kilts and and did a special, mash-up show at the Crown Pub, with our favorite bartender, Sonja. The night was a blast, the show was fun, and the Twin's got DRUNK. All was in order, I'd say!
The festival continued on, warming up and winding down, as early-year shows tend to do. If you're like me, and grew up attending a Fall show, you're used to festivals getting colder as they progress. I'm just now coming to the point where I can sweat at a show and it still feel like a Renaissance Festival. As we reached the end of the show, I made the choice to stick around in Muskogee and sell Fireworks with the Castle, and si I moved in with two friends, along side their two dogs, Harley and Pepper, and the ferrets Smoky and Bandit. I'll be sticking around until life carries me elsewhere, and enjoy the little life here I've got in the middle of nowhere...now, time to head north for our return to South Daokta!
