I’ve visited home a lot thru the run of Atlanta. It’s only a seven hour drive so I can drive home after the fair on Sunday and get home about 2am. So I did that often. One of my trips was the week of Cinco de Mayo, another great recognized American holiday perpetuated by liquor distributors!

Sharon had to work since she’s employed at a Mexican style establishment. So I just threw caution to the wind and headed downtown. There was a lot going on. I parked at one of the garages downtown. Figured it’d be safer and probably cost less. I sent out a blanket “calling all friends” text to see what people were up to. Janine texted back that she was at the “Independent”. It’s a neat little beer pub. I met her for a beer then she said she and some friends were going to see a free concert in the Jannus Landing courtyard. The concert was fun. The band was average with the exception of a Duran Duran cover they did. That really got the crowd going.
After the concert we wandered over to the “Red Mesa Cantina”. It’s the more “Bar” version of the “Red Mesa” that Sharon works at. We had some drinks and Sharon eventually joined us after she got off work. We really had a fun time. I rarely get to do things on the drinking holidays. Our travel and work schedule always mess them up. But don’t worry; I still manage to get some drinking in.
While at home I also got to enjoy one of my other favorite past times… Eating! Our roommate Jeff found this place on the beach that does “All you can eat” Snow Crab two days a week!!! So we went twice during my trips home. The first trip I ate 6.75 lbs of crab. The second time I ate 8.25 lbs! I loves me some Snow Crab! It was a nice chance to invite some friends to quite a feast. We also ran into some other old friends as well!
One of the weeks I stayed in Georgia we did a photo shoot with a local photographer named Brent Walker. He does some amazing work! We did this kind of Victorian/Steampunk shoot. What fun! I hope we get to shoot with him in the future. I think some of the shots are floating around our collective Facebook pages. Just look for ‘em!
That same week we had another feast catered by Chef Jax! If you remember she’s a professional chef that has befriended us and whipped up some amazing meals for us. Both in Georgia and my home in Florida. Salmon cakes, Prime rib, sundried tomato bread pudding and bacon wrapped asparagus were menu items to name a few. Wow, that girl can cook! Thanks Jax, you never disappoint!

My last trip home was just before Memorial Day weekend. Sharon actually had a day off so we planned a little Orlando trip. Not for Disney believe it or not, but for a dinner theater show our friend Roberta is in. It’s called “Treasure Tavern”. She plays the MC/Host. It was a fun show filled with comedy/improv, Acrobats, Contortionists and Magicians. Plus, all of the waitresses are dancers! (Not to mention cute) Bonus!
They food was great. After our meals and a few more musical numbers I even got pulled up on stage. It figures. I don’t know if they can see a sign saying “performer” or “comedian” over my head but I always get picked on in these things.
We had a great time at the show with Howard, Roberta’s husband and very close friend of many years. After the show we went out drinking with the cast. What a blast! They are a really fun bunch. I hope we get to hang out again soon. Well, maybe not since I’m headed to the mid-west soon.
Well, Georgia is almost over. Time to set our sights on Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin. Thanks to all our Georgia friends and fans for a great run. And a special thanks to Holly C. for opening her home to me. There’s nothing more pathetic than a homeless Tortuga. See ya next time!
