This month I finish up with Decorating Elves season, and do some much needed upgrades to the house in Florida. I can’t wait to see how it looks!
Since the Decorating Elves season has now come to a close, it’s time to look forward to the new Tortuga Twins season. I’ll be headed to Phoenix soon enough so I need to get the house in order before I leave. I’ve already gotten the new central air and heat installed and we’ve been working on the inside of the house for years. So, now it’s time to spruce up the exterior!
My friend Jay (one of the other Decoration Elves regional managers) is a house painter and carpenter. Since I’m a firm believer in keeping biz in the family when possible I’d much rather pay him to work for me that a stranger. Plus, I’ve seen his work. The man’s got mad skills!
So, the plan is to paint the entire exterior of the house as well as the Garage door. In addition to that we are replacing our two exterior doors; the front door and the side garage door. The house has been white for many, many years with a blue trim accent color. This year we’ve decided on a two tone Tan and brown combo with a blue accent color on the front door and sidelight and white garage door (it was blue) and white side garage door. I think it’s gonna look like a completely different house. Too bad I’ll be gone to AZ before it’s done.
Jay started with the front door. He tore out the old glass block sidelight and then removed the old door frame. We had to work fast or we’d be left with a giant hole in the front of the house overnight. Not particularly secure if ya know what I mean.
The new door and frame as well as the new sidelight went in nicely. It did take a little squeezing to get in the space but Jay’s a pro. He did a great job. I can tell it’s gonna look amazing after it’s painted.
Next, Jay started prepping the house for paint. It was time to pick out our colors. After a couple trips to Home Depot we had all the supplies we needed to finish the job. Right about that time it was time for me to leave for Arizona.
I stopped for a week in Louisiana to visit friends. First I stopped by the Haeusers. They put everyone up during the Louisiana show in December. Then I visited my friends in the French quarter. Boy, do I love that town! It’s daiquiri time!
While I’m in Louisiana and on the way to Arizona the work on the house will continue. I hope it turns out great! But if the pictures are any indication it’s looking amazing.
Next stop Arizona! I may try to either stop by my good friend Mark’s house in Houston or maybe go to Austin to visit my friend and partner in the credit card processing company. It’ll all depend on the timing and how tired I am as I pass thru the perspective towns.
Ok, back on the road I go. I’ll see ya in about 30 days right here, or in person at the Arizona Renaissance Festival!
