Well, I lived through another perfectly good year. And an apocalypse. So life is pretty good so far. This month saw the end of Louisiana. This was the first year that Jef gave me the entire run down there. So I got to enjoy LaRF for three weekends. While working with the originals has it's own stress factor, I'm greatly going to miss this festival if/when Jef ever wants it back.
The camaraderie at the house is second to none. Food, friends, games, drinks. It truly is a special occasion each year. Unfortunately like every other festival it's still an hour away from the airport. I got to spend a night or two in New Orleans proper. I have got to get down there for Mardi Gras some year, but alas it probably won't be this year. Definitely need to make plans for the following. Hopefully by then the ol' finances will have gotten a little more solid for everyone, myself included.
We also had our first annual(?) Tortuga Twins Christmas Show. The guys had been writing it for most of the year, and they got input from us in the past couple months. I didn't have too much to do with it until the week of. But I know Jamey was swamped helping pick up props. Brian Holloway was a set-piece constructing monster. The originals were busy getting everyone lined up to do their part. And Jon was practicing being a smart ass.
We actually had a rehearsal on Wednesday night at my house. I think that's the first time I had all six of us there. Such a weird feeling, actually rehearsing a Tortuga show 😉 Load in and tech was Thursday, and oh dear god was that a case of organized chaos. Even the run through was so rough. I'll be honest, coming from a theatre background, I felt a little bad for the local tech crew. I'm sure they were thinking to themselves "Oh dear god, what are these fools doing?" But all doubt and hesitation washed away as soon as everyone stepped out on stage and "the crowd went wild." I can't believe what an amazing group of loving, supportive fans we have. Without all of you, I know I certainly wouldn't have nearly as much fun, or the freedom to get away with all the crazy shaningans that we do! Thank you one and all!
Christmas was pretty laid back for me. I saw my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew Christmas Eve. Christmas night I actually had some friends over and we played some card games. Oh, if you enjoy politically incorrect humor, pick up a copy of Cards Against Humanity. God damn is it an amazingly fun game. I'm probably going to be playing it again tonight!
Until January, take care and be safe everyone!!
