This month we get to do a weekend in Kenosha, Wisconsin. It’s at the Bristol Faire, a show we’ve been trying to get an extended run in for several years now. We’ve done a one weekend “audition†three years in a row now and are hopeful that after another solid run and being well received we might win ourselves a 5 to 6 week run. That would fill out our summer nicely.
After Bristol, Jes, who came along to check out the Bristol show, and I drove north to Door County to visit her Grandparents. Door County is the peninsula north of Green Bay. The terrain is beautiful and filled with lakes, small towns and lighthouses. Jes and I got to do some great sightseeing on our short visit up north. Too bad we have to get back to Minneapolis so soon, but Jes has to get back to work.
Once back in Minneapolis it was time to prepare for the Minneapolis Renaissance Festival. It’s my favorite show of the year. The crowds are insane! But, the real reason I love MRF is because we can get away with anything on stage. The audience has created a venue where we can do what we want and due to the popularity of the show, the sky is the limit!!!! Please don’t take offense to this if you’re from another market. I love all the fairs for different reasons. This fair just edges the others out.
We spent the latter part of the week cleaning and stocking the shelves at the Lotion Candle booth. After that it was time for Riki and me to do the Tortuga load in. We set up the sound system and set up the Merchandise cart. Everything came together fairly easily, even though it required a couple 10 hour days.
Opening weekend rocked!!! The crowds opening day were the biggest in over a decade. It sure is nice to be back in Minnesota! I think this is gonna turn out to be a huge year! If you have a way to make it out, I highly recommend it.
My last social outing for the month was a trip to the Minnesota State Fair. It’s supposed to be one of the biggest in the country! They have well over a million visitors in like 12 days! Just about all the food is served on a stick! It’s crazy! (But I’m sure you locals know that.)
We hit the fair on Wednesday evening for one of Jessica’s friend’s birthday. Her name is Lori. We met up with everyone and grabbed a few beers. It was nice to meet some more of Jes’s friends. We drank some more and Tried some of the fun food booths. Onion blossoms, buckets of cookies and hot turkey sandwiches were on the menu. Wait! None of those are on a stick! Oh yeah! Roasted corn on the cob! I think that was on a stick. And was it ever good. Just about anything dipped in butter is good!
Sorry this wasn’t a more exciting month. This one was really more about getting set up for the Minnesota show. I promise next month will be more interesting. It is my birthday month after all!
