Intro
Jetting cross country, going from my home in Mesa, Arizona to my home in Savage, Minnesota. While there this year, I’ll be staying with Tortuga Minion Beata Simin and her boyfriend, Tony Hennum.
Lost Memoirs
You may or may not notice that I‘ve skipped my July Journal. The one that was supposed to be dedicated to my trip to Thailand. A funny thing that. I had it all written out, even had most of the pictures selected. In fact, I was only waiting on some additional pictures, taken of Sarina & my Tao Garden book release party for Why Real Women Drink Straight Tequila—The Tao of Intimacy.
The long and the short of it is my computer crashed. Six weeks of new data lost—for now at any rate. I still have hopes that I’ll be able to retrieve everything from that time. Including my already-completed July Journal. If I find that I cannot, or if it takes too damned long for me to procure the proper retrieval peeps, then I shall reconstruct said journal. There’s just too much cool stuff to let slip away. And, that’s what you people are paying for, right? A glimpse into our day to day. Especially when we wax exotic. Don’t worry; you’ll get to see it all. I was smart enough to keep my pictures on the 8-gig SD card I use for my digital camera. I still have everything from there, and now it’s in multiple places.
I went out and bought myself a Toshiba NB205 Netbook. That is what I’m working from until I either get my computer back online or I pull the funds together to purchase a new one. (Mine is now three to four years old. Ooo, ancient technology.) I’m really enjoying the versatility and mobility of the netbook. It goes anywhere, boots up quickly, and has a long battery life. The tradeoff is the slower processor and missing CD drive. Still, it’s a great little workstation.
Anywho, enough with the explanation for last month’s missing journal. Onto this month!
Phoenix Oasis
I’ve been spending most of my August thus far in the eastern burbs of Phoenix. Heather, my girlfriend who I’m sure most of you have heard something about by now, lives there. I endeavor to spend any free time I can with her. Go figure. And, that brings me to the Sun Valley more and more. Not a bad place to be, really. Especially around the winter time.
But, this is Summer, right? Summer in Arizona. 105+ weather. I’ve never been in Arizona in the Summer. I’ve done plenty of hot in my lifetime, but mostly in humid locales. Never in the desert—so, this was new for me.
People tend to look at me like I’m nuts when I tell them that I frequently winter in Minnesota. My record was back in 2000 for the second coldest, second snowiest winter ever there. Honestly, though, I enjoy it. It’s a novelty for me. Sure, it’s cold. Outside. But, it’s mucho warm enough inside. So, for me it’s fun. Snow, sledding, white Christmases—it’s all good. The converse can be said about summers in Arizona.
The air is hot. Even at night. The wind blows, and the 100-degree air wraps around you. It caresses you sensually. It’s fantastic. Sure, you have to bring all your electronics in from the car. Sure you have to put the shade up in the window no matter how short a span of time you’re in running errands. Sure you have to do all that and more, but you deal with it. Inside, there’s air conditioning. And, no matter how much people joke about it, the saying has merit. It’s a dry heat.Believe me, that makes a world of difference. 100-degree humid weather sux big time. I’ll take 105+ in Arizona verses 95+ in Minnesota, or Georgia, or Florida any day. And that’s what I’ve got to say about that.
A New Book Venture
While here, Heather & I have been enjoying mucho activities. She keeps herself busy training and working at the Plaza de Anaya bellydance studio. She’s taken a variety of styles and leans heavily toward art forms that have to do with fire. She has gotten so good with her Fire Poi that people have begun asking her to perform at parties and other events. I’m very proud of her.
I busied myself catching up on Tortuga work, Quantum Manifestations (Sarina & my company) tasks, and beginning a new book. That’s right, I’ve begun writing again. Took me long enough, right? Anywho, this one will cover revisiting and pursuing our dreams. Those that we’ve put on the I’ll-do-that-someday backburner. I had a couple experiences in Thailand that have led me to believe I should be organizing all this stuff I yak about, and putting it all down on paper. Or on a hard drive, as the case may be. You’ll hear more about the book over the next year, with maybe even an excerpt or two to whet your appetite.
Work isn’t the only thing Heather & I have been up to. We’ve hung out with friends at parties, gone to see comedians at the Tempe Improv, and taken a trip to Sedona, Arizona. Mostly, we’ve enjoyed each other’s company and learned a little more about what a “normal” life together might be. And, we’re both looking forward to more.

If you’re curious about what I’m up to on more of a day-to-day basis, check me out on Twitter: @darthmordant. Be forewarned - I tend to tweet quite frequently, though I try to be entertaining.
Well, Tortugaholics, I hope you’ve enjoyed this glimpse into my world. Things will begin moving faster as the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and Carolina Renaissance Festival move into high gear. There’ll be trips back and forth to Arizona as well as whatever adventures come my way. As always, I’ll give you the skinny on those as well as provide some vibrant pictures for your enjoyment. I’m about a couple hours into my flight with less than one to go. I’m going to sign off and get back to reading Time Scout byLinda Evans and the late, great Robert Asprin . It’s one of my favorite time travel series and one that’s been out of print. I found this copy in a Half Price Books in Mesa. Good luck finding a copy, but well worth it if you do.
Alright, that’s all for now. Enjoy the rest of your summer. Remember to grow the good in your lives. Not only because what you focus on expands, but also because there’s enough people planting bad seeds out there. Sow hope—it’s what people need. Besides . . . it’s much more fun. Ciao for now, my Tortugaholics. See you in thirty or so.
