This month it’s time to catch up with the state of Florida. It’s been over two months since I’ve seen the sunshine state!
Arizona 2012 is but a memory and it’s time to gear up for Georgia but before that I’m gonna make a stop in Florida and visit family and friends. I was beat from the long drive from Arizona, even though I made a couple stops along the way. I was gonna arrive at about 1 AM and didn’t want to wake anyone up so I call Howie and Roberta. Both are in the entertainment field and stay up later than my other friends.
While in town I plan to visit the homestead and check in with friends, as well as my dad. My dad moved to Florida to be closer to his brother and me. Of course his brother has passed away and I’m on the road all the time. It figures.
I may have mentioned it in earlier journals but I just had a ton of work done to my house. All new exterior doors, all new exterior paint and a new central heat and air system put in. The house looks amazing. It didn’t look too bad before but compared to how it looks now? It was white trash central!!!
I decided to spend a night at my dad’s so we could catch up. I bounce in and out of Florida often enough but usually only get to see my dad for lunch or dinner. I never really get a chance to spend a prolonged amount of time to reconnect and “bond†with him.
This time was different. We really had a full day to hang out, chat, and joke around with each other. I miss that. I sometimes forget how much alike we are. Boy, what a couple smartasses!
While reminiscing, my dad pulled out some old pictures. I mean some REALLY old pictures! I had to share so I’ve included some of them in my journal pics.
In case you didn’t know my father was (is) a singer. He recorded a few singles and sang with a lot of the well-known “Big Bandsâ€. After that segment of his career he started Dick Hall Productions. (www.dhall.com)He was a special event producer. So growing up I hung out with many celebrities. It was kinda cool. Too bad I was too young to really appreciate it. But it’s no wonder that I ended up a performer coming from the union of a professional ballroom dancer and nightclub crooner.
Needless to say it was wonderful to see my old man. I hope we get a chance to do that again. I had a great time. I hope he did too.
Now that my pit stop in Florida was over, it was time to bust a move on over to Georgia. Ronn and Riki are already there. So I should get up there so I can get our sound system and King of the Log game ready to go.
This year I’m staying above Ruth Thompson’s shop. She’s the woman Sharon used to work for a few years back. She has a little apartment above the booth and offered it up to me. I’ll be doing some repairs and renovations for her. So it’s a win-win scenario. I get a place to stay and she gets work done on her booth.
The booth really needed some TLC. There are a couple roof leaks and the interior just needs a new paint job. I’m also gonna put some real flooring in. I’ve been walking on plywood long enough. I also hope that after a good cleaning and a coat of paint my sinuses won’t be killing me as much. It’s been REALLY bad this year.
I’m also doing a little video shooting for Barely Balanced’s new DVD. They need an actor to play a moderator/game show host kinda guy. I get to wear mustaches!! Fun! Keep your eyes out for that one.
I’d like to send a special shot out and thanks to Vox Mortuum the dollmaker. She made us some really cool Tortuga Dolls. Look for more pictures on our Facebook page. Thanks hun! They are super cool!
Other than that, Georgia is moving along quite well. As I type this we’re two weekends in and I look forward to more. I’m anxious to see how this summer plays out. I’ve got some potential new business ventures brewing and might be doing some non-tortuga work in the Midwest. We’ll see.
I hope your spring is coming along well. Come out and see us in Georgia!!
