They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I hope so cuz then I’ve already got about 40,000 words. Since I’m a little behind and writing both March and April’s journals at the same time, I’m gonna keep this one brief and let the pictures do the talking.
This month we traveled to Las Vegas. Just like every year, we try to make a pilgrimage to the “City of Sin†at least once. The difference this year is we are doing it on St. Patrick’s Day! It just turned out that the week that fit our schedule best was the week of St. Paddy’s Day. So, we drove out Monday morning at the break of dawn to make it to Vegas in time to check into our hotel and grab dinner before partying the night away on green beer!
Originally it was just gonna be Jes and I. But then we decided to invite our good friend Kim. While discussing the trip one day another friend overheard the conversation, so we invited her too. Then I thought maybe my cousin Darren from Canada would like to join us. Before we knew it there were eleven of us! Kim invited her brother, Jes invited our friend Bluette that we met in New Orleans last Halloween and we invited our close AZ friends John and Lynn and Sarina from Minneapolis. We also flew Jes’ Grandmother in to babysit Mia so we could go out too!
What a great trip it was! We saw two great shows. Zumanity, Cirque Du Soliel’s adult burlesque style show. And Absinthe, one of Vegas’ newest and most outrageous variety shows. Both were amazing!! If you are ever in Vegas I highly recommend both of them. But if you are easily offended don’t go to Absinthe. It is far from politically correct! But, funny as hell!!! I was in tears I was laughing so hard.
We also, had some great meals, did some shopping and seriously got our drink on. The last night of our trip we took a limo to one of the local premier strip clubs, “Treasuresâ€. What a great night! We definitely made some new friends. But, what a hangover the next day!!!
On the way home Jessica and I were so hung-over we wanted to die. Don’t get me wrong. It was totally worth it but made the drive home pure hell. I could only drive like two hours before I had to hand off the task to someone else. And I can always drive! Not this time.
Our other out of the ordinary excursion was our trip to Apache Lake. We went with Brande and Artie, a couple other vendors on the festival circuit. It’s this beautiful picturesque lake in a canyon in the middle of the AZ desert. I gotta say it’s pretty cool! I think it was Mia’s official fist boat ride. She handled it like a champ!
We rented a boat, drove to one end of the lake, and then slowly made our way back looking for this mystical fairy grotto that Brande said she had stumbled upon years ago. When I say “mystical fairy grotto†I mean a really cool little wooded area with a picnic table and outdoor grills.
It only took us about 10 minutes to find it. But I have to say if you didn’t know it was there, you probably would never find it. I look forward to another trip out there next year!
As I said, I was gonna keep it brief. I’ve included some pictures of our AZ Meet and Greet. It’s always one of our best attended of the year and this season was no different. Everyone had a great time and the trivia contest was a blast!
The Arizona Renaissance Festival is almost over and it looks like we are gonna have a record gate for the year! Thanks to all our fans out there! And thanks to all our friends in AZ. You guys made this one of our most memorable years! (You know who you are) See ya soon! 😉
