Hey look! My journal is late again. This month was the month that begins the holiday season and the Carolina show.
During the run of Carolina this year Sharon and I decided to hold the Tea party at our place. Our place is the little apartment above Ruth's booth. Tea party is when performers and crafters get together after a festival day to share a drink and some conversation. We did it a little differently. We added some fun food to the mix. We'd make either my family recipe Italian Lasagna Soup, or chili or Sharon's signature Chicken vegetable soup. They went very well and were very well attended. I think we may do it again next year.
Carolina is going great, probably one of the best attended shows of the season. Retail is a little down but tips are steady. That's no surprise in this economy. It's a lot easier to tip a buck or two than to spend twenty bucks on a DVD.
We had some great get-togethers in Charlotte this year. Between the meet and greet, and dinners with all our good friends like Frankie D and Kelly, and Robbie and April, not to mention all our friends on the cast, we really had a great time. This is one of the really social shows. It's a lot like Georgia.
One of the other big things this month was the beginning of the Decorating Elves season. If you look at my December or January journal from this past year it talks about some of the things we did to keep us afloat during the holiday season and the performance off-season.
Last year I did some freelance work for this company that does Christmas lighting displays for residences and commercial sites. Well, the owner took a shine to me and basically offered me a franchise and my own region to work this year. So, during the run of Carolina I'll be commuting back and forth to Florida to do bids on holiday lighting jobs. I'll tell ya' more next month.

I am a Decorating Elf!
I did do one DJ gig on one of my trips to Florida. It was for my friend Howard. He does a gig at Champps Sports bar. They call it Cash Penalty Payback. Whenever a team gets a penalty during the Monday night game I write the penalties yards on the back of a ticket and call the number of the ticket out. Whoever has that number wins the yardage in dollars. Ten Yards=10 Dollars, etc. What a fun gig! Easy too. Hey Howie! I'll do that for you anytime! I have to say I was a little nervous when I stepped into the booth but as soon as I put the mic in my hand and turned it on, it all came back to me.
Finally, this month is Halloween!!! If you know me at all, you know I love Halloween. I did put the Hall in Halloween after all. : ) This year I decided to put old Cap'n Jack to rest and have some fun with another movie inspired costume. I also wanted to keep this one much simpler so my wife wouldn't kill me for spending too much. The movie… Ironman. The character… Tony Stark.
Of course you're thinking that the suit would be too much work. And, for the most part you are right. (But I have found the suit online for a very reasonable price) So, what I did was, I got a jacket that I had the Stark industries logo put on. I found a light nearly exactly like the reactor in his chest and then just found the helmet online. (I love ebay!) And, Voila! Tony Stark.
I am DJ Jef!
I am IronMan!
I may do the character again in future years since the movie did so well. I got the hair and the beard down. All I need to do is add some more to the costume! Sharon is grumbling behind me. : )
