The desert is dangerous. No really, these dirt hippies are not to be messed with. I did see one snake. Kept my distance (duh.)
So, March. Robin getting finessed, Wolf going up, lots and lots of work on the R show… they say it’s easy but maaaan that’s a lot of choreography and talkin’.
Solidified plans for Georgia, I’ll be workin’ cart. Sweet deal, I get to stay on the road, and watch the shows, and soak up more training. The social calendar for March included the RESCU rally, the funky formal, and the talent show. The RESCU Rally is a fund raiser for Rennie’s who need medical attention and are uninsured. In the silent auction, I bid-and won- on a glass hummingbird. It’s a gift for a lass who’s my raven, because I’m her hummingbird. There’s a reference to my tiny stature in one of those, and a bob Dylan song in the other. I also donated my fair share of dollars by buying a few glasses of wine. It’s because I care, you know. The funky formal was zombie prom themed and, of course, was my first… it was pretty lightly attended, but a good good time. Everyone was dancing, and having fun. Mainly I people watched, and I’d have to say the high point for me was watching one of the Clan Tynker kids zombie dance with pretty thorough commitment. Good job, Sarah. The talent show surprised me….not to be a jerk (what, a Tortuga? Rude? Never!) but I’d set my standards kind of low, amateur night being amateur night, after all….please note I’m fully aware that I say this as a hack who didn’t sign up for anything himself 😉 but there was some good stuff on display! A nice parody for the ‘Hey Nunnie Nunnie’ show; what I think was a Rilo Kiley song played some girl on an acoustic guitar, more singing, more tricks, and the time warp. One can never go wrong with the time warp.
Also of course this month was 3.6.09. frickin’ watchmen, baby. Personally, having read the graphic novel some time ago, I was floored. I’ve been singing it’s praises for a while, and as big screen adaptations go, this one was pretty spot on. I’ve heard some complaints, but I was blown away. The changes were smart, the casting was excellent, and there were some shots that were literally panels from the original comic….hot damn, it was good times.
And of course, the meet and greet. While I did indeed get my ass handed to me in some basketball at the D&B, I still had a great time. I’ll be more careful, though, about where I order my bloody marys. It’s a science, and not every bar does it right. Yeesh. But the night was fantastic. Had lots of cool folks, lots of good conversation, lots of shots. Good times.
I’m going to miss the desert, but really, I’m excited to go back home. This is a fantastic lifestyle, but it takes some getting used to. It’ll be nice to be home, see my niece, sleep in my own bed, pet my cats, eat some good old fashioned North Carolina barbeque, and maybe even a night out on the town with a certain raven lady. Then jump right back in for Georgia!
See you there!
