SO here I am! Here we are. MIRF has welcomed the Blue Team to Holly and we do love it here! I drove up from NC and made it to site in the afternoon before opening. I spent the first chunk of the month holed up in my parents house watching 'The Office' and tweaking my arsenal of Gluten-Free foods. Exhibit A: My bad ass chicken. bacon, and red pepper pizza. DELICIOUS. Thank god for exhibit B: Gluten-free Bisquick! After my sojourn in Oklahoma, I developed a pretty heavy addiction to pickled Okra, and was delighted to find it here at home! And I believe that ends my raving about food for this month.

The drive up was easy enough, though my adherence to schedule kept me from any detours I might have enjoyed. I will say this: Eastern Kentucky is gorgeous! I got to site and got all checked in, nested a bit in our swanky KOA Kabin, and settled in to wait for the boys. Friday night I picked up B from the airport in Detroit, and he and I stayed up much too late chatting and catching up. Early in the AM Jimmae rolled in, and we all got ready for the opening day of MIRF! we share the stage with a FANTASTIC bawdy madrigal act we met at Silverleaf, Bocca Musica. the crowds were light and the weather a bit rambunctious, but opening weekend was a blast, nonetheless (even if my memory of Sunday evening is, um, foggy). The highlight was most definitely Bocca's backstage show for about four fans- now THAT'S a party! The week following our opening was lazy, and sprinkled with a lot of fun with other rennie's. I've become a bit of a sidekick to the Washing Well Wenches here at this fest. So there was a cook out with Bocca, a potluck on site, and my new favorite weekly activity: wine tasting and dance party Wednesday! Cartee and I also helped out with a short film, 'The Pursuit of Happiness' and had a blast! Weekend two came upon us with better weather and bigger crowds, and showed just how rockin' these Michiganders can be. Our last show of the day, while typically Robin, is proving to be a little weirder, and a little more free-form, thanks to the drunks crawling around by five. It's a lot of fun, even if the Twins and the audience made a frienemy in one of our shows...RYAN! 🙂
As a side note, I am, as usual, writing this journal working around yet ANOTHER technology FAIL in my world, as my net book is temporarily (I hope) suffering from some battery issues.
So, again, since the real action didn't start until the 20th, and parts of this journal are being typed on my phone, It's gonna be another brief one, but I will leave you with a suggestion: 'The Hunger Games' is one of the best reads of the last ten years. I just started book two in the trilogy, and am excited for the ride to continue.
Wish all little Tortuga's luck as we rock and roll through the second half of our festivals in Michigan and Minnesota! Love ya bunches!
