FULL DISCLOSURE: I adore the new website, but I'll be damned if every journal post now doesn't feel like my first one. I'm relearning every month...less gin, maybe? I dunno. May is the month i which we hang out in Muskogee, OK at the castle. And let me say without hyperbole that it feels like coming home. I adore everything about the show! among the first things we did in coming in was go see 'The Avengers' with a cavalcade of nerds, after our opening student day on friday. What fun. The next day being Cinco De Mayo saw the same group sailing out to seek the nachos and margaritas white people traditionally use the day as an excuse to consume, and copious amounts of both we indeed did consume. It was in that haze of bueno comraderie we did hatch the plan for what would become our avengers show...and what a show it was! ...but more on that later... Â Our shows here at the castle have been great, as is our time between shows on fair days. This festival is kind of legendary for it's sense of community, and it's part of what makes me love it here so much. We see a lot of old friends and such, and the welcome is always warm. Weekend two saw a surprise visit from some friends from BARF, and what a pleasant surprise it was! A certain pretty lady acrobat began working for the juggling booth AND the face painting booth, putting her myriad skills to profitable use. That weekend was also the Masque Ball, and so my old friend and flame The Libster & I dressed as the 11th Dr. & The Tardis. We danced and ate & had a blast. We were a hit.
The Campground was home for the boy & I, and the pup was excellently behaved and IT was quite comfortable, utilizing several tarps to construct a kind of patio/living room in front of my kind of tiny tent. But it was really nice! I filled my weeks in the company of the acrobat & we enjoyed some book stores, a movie, some comic book-shopping, and fine dining. As The OK show drew to a close, we performed once again at the Celtic celebration the saturday night of the festival's 4th weekend, and it, yet again, was shoot...we skipped the kilts, this year, though. This was of course the same weekend as 'JESTERS ASSEMBLE' a fun, but pointless, one may argue, Avengers parody & fire eating show we did with Trey Cromwell & the Jester Rejects. We did it with out much of a plan, but great costumes & props, and it was silly and fun...and best of all, didn't get us fired! Oklahoma's final weekend came and went, and we packed up to head to South Dakota, another much-adored stop on our long, long road. The weekend in SD was amazing as always, and we went to an amazing cookout with 'the blue hat boys' some Minnesota trouble makers who are a lot of fun. Many thanks to Brenda & the boys for being such awesome hosts, and introducing Cartee & I to 'Redneck Frisbee'! The drive back to NC was a lengthy one for me, as I stopped off for one last dinner in Muskogee with with my buddy Zach. I left that night and stopped off just after midnight on the eastern side of Memphis- I am forever regretting not having time to stop and enjoy that city. The motel was nice enough, but for one minor detail- standing water in the tub. o_0 Jesus. I drove on the next day, and got pulled over just this side of the NC border, so I have that to deal with while I am home. Lame, but only M'self to blame. A few days after my return home, my great friend Anthony was visiting from Brooklyn, so we had an excellent chance to catch up. Always a treat. Now, I have a few weeks to prep for BlackRock, MIRF & CTRF. A nice break, but I am eager to be out and play again soon! file://localhost/Users/danawray/Desktop/mail-3.jpeg
