Hi gang!
It's a new year and that means theatre abound. I have been working on four shows at a time right now- A Tuna Christmas (closed), GONZO (again), Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead ANNNNNND- Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. Yes you read all that right. I'm doing a musical! I have to admit, when I took this all on I didn't expect it to wear me out as much as it did... but by the end of it all I was beyond exhausted.
Unfortunately, there were no reviews of these shows- which blows goats, but needless to say- I had a damn fine show in R&G. The turnout was light to begin with and issues with the space has finally pushed me over the edge: I am going to open my own theatre space. It'll be called 'The Universe.'
As the month drew on and we got closer to R&G I met less and less with Dr. H. It was harder and harder to get space and time as the show grew close- now if you don't know this show, normally it takes 2 months to put on. I was doing it in three weeks. (Stop your snickering! Well, alright... go ahead.) Meanwhile, my short term relationship sputtered- I was too involved with my work. Oh well. Now i don't know about your relationships, but I tend to think I can go four days without seeing someone and not be offended. I did call... anyways, end rant.
It was looking more and more like this would all come down to the wire- and it did.
It was a hell of a show though! Great performances all around- thanks especially to Megan and Tanya! Now of course all during this time my mind wasn't completely lost on Dr. H. When i wasn't rehearsing I was making videos and filming for the videos that went along with that show. I even did a little Hamlet for R&G with some out of town folk. All this was thanks to the genius of one Mr. Adam Parrish. He actually took time from my using his time to go propose to his girlfriend Amy. Yay! So a wedding in the future! Of course my drink of choice during this time was black n gold sake. Yes Sake. MMMMmmmmmmmm... sake.
So back to R&G. I was doing this show at the Chop Shop in NODA, Charlotte (NC). It's a band venue and they have no respect or idea how to deal with theatre. not like I haven't met with that before. But really, talking during a film shoot, rehearsals and even during Thursday night's showing! How rude. (Screw you Jar Jar) Despite this, we had a good show... one that finally turned out an audience. Again- another rant- a thing of people complaining that certain types of theatre are never done. But why as a theatre would you do one of the great dead white guys who aren't Shakespeare if no one come out? Well I'm doing it ya bastards so haul your carcasses out to support the arts. Anyways- we ended strong and had a hell of a party. Then it was another headlong dive into the breakneck pace for Dr. H. But that's February... and that's another journal.
Til next time space cowboy-
