Well my “down time†is almost over. I spent January hanging out with friends, catching up on work, and getting stuff done around the house. Including a Rennie Party and mummies!
I’m pretty sure I covered new years in my last journal. New years days was as much of an event as every other year. Starting off with a little hair of the dog, in other words, morning mimosas. Then a trip to Einstein’s bagels for my ever-consistent Spinach and Bacon Panini. Seriously, it’s delicious on wheat bread, you should try it. And don’t forget the chocolate chip cookie!

12th Night Madness
There is a local party every year thrown on by Karen Whipple for all the local Rennie Cast. For years I’ve been invited and for years I’ve not been able to make it. Well, that finally changed this year. And man did I pick the right year to go. It was amazingly gorgeous out. Although, come to think of it, this entire winter has been a very mild one. I’ve enjoyed it greatly, but I’m hoping I didn’t just jinx myself by coming out and saying that. :: Crosses Fingers ::
The party of course had it’s contingent of finger food, drinks, beer, home brewed mead and beer, wine, more finger food, and photographers. What do you call a group of photographers? My brothers and I (And SongBird) have decided that a group of Flower Selling Girls is called a “Bloom†of flower girls. What about a group of photographers? How about a “Stop†of photographers? Votes?
But as I was saying.. the stop of photographers set up shop in the garage, complete with a “beach dock†backdrop. I think pretty much everyone took a turn in the spotlight and had lots of great photos taken. Sean Moreano, a visitor from Atlanta whom some of you may know as one of Carolinas Street Pirates the final weekend, even showed up. I think it may have had something to do with a cute blonde... but I’ll give her a run for her money.
The Mundane
Finally replaced the sink in my bathroom. I’ve watched it slowly drip leak for a couple months now. Unfortunately the old one was so corroded I couldn’t pull it apart to replace the valve stem. Alas, alas... but that’s okay, I like this one better anyway.
I also satisfied my geek tech craving. I finally took the plunge and got a tablet. I picked up an Asus Transformer Prime. 10inches of 1.3Ghz Quad-Core goodness. And let me tell you, this baby screams. The worst part is that it shows me how old my phone really is. I’ll be needing to upgrade from my Evo 4G later this summer. I am such a gadget geek.
The Mummies
Also took a day and went to see the Mummies of the World exhibit at the Discovery Place. I think they must have had 20-30 human mummies on display from all over the world. And then lots of mummified animals as well. What I found fascinating was both the “manually prepared†mummies, where humans took active steps to mummify the remains vs the “naturally mummified†mummies. Think bodies lost in bogs, dry crypts, or even dry attics! The attached IMAX was showing a 30 minute film of the discovery of the first Egyptian Pharoah mummies as well. If you’re in Charlotte, be sure to check out this exhibit!
The Mayhem
Now looking forward I’m getting ready for a very busy spring. In Feb I will spend 7 weekends traveling to Tampa. Immediately followed by 4 weekends in Texas. And there’s a possibility for 4 weeks after that elsewhere, but we’re still negotiating. Last year 9 weekends in a row was the most I ever did. Now I’m looking at a minimum of 11, possibly 15. :: gulp ::
I can do this... 😀
